Vicenza Stone

pietra di vicenza bianca

Vicenza stone is an Italian stone product used since Roman times for the creation of decorative elements and statues. The worldwide fame of Vicenza stone is mainly due to the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio who used this material for the construction of architectural masterpieces throughout Veneto region.
The white Vicenza stone is precisely extracted in the south of Vicenza in the area of the Berici hills and is a fine-grained stone with a homogeneous appearance with a predominantly light color.
Extracted in good quantities both in open-pit quarries and in tunnels, Vicenza stone is mainly made up of calcium carbonate and variable percentages of iron, silicon and aluminum oxide. Its origin is the result of the sedimentation of numerous fossil organisms such as algae, shells and crustaceans.
